Deaf Awareness Event

As part of a Special Educational Needs (SEN) conference organised by Mrs Mary Greenwood for year 4 BEd students, deaf pupils from Jordanstown School provided an introduction to sign language through participation in the Learn2Sign initiative. This initiative provides an introduction to deaf awareness and sign language to promote understanding and communication between student teachers and deaf pupils.

These deaf learners were involved heavily in the planning and delivery of the initiative, and students significantly augmented their knowledge and skills in this area. The pupils’ teachers said the day was mutually beneficial, not only informing student teachers but also providing the deaf pupils with opportunities to develop the organisational and interpersonal skills that will be of material benefit to them in the future.

Deaf pupils from Jordanstown School invited as part of a Special Education Needs conference to provide and into to sign language to BEd 4th Year students.
