St Mary’s Win Again

St Mary’s University College reached the final of the Gaelic football All-Ireland Higher Education League Division 1 competition with a terrific display of football in Dublin on Thursday, 22 November.

The students from the smallest university institution in the competition overcame those from the largest, namely University College Dublin (UCD). The final score was UCD 0-11 v St Mary’s 1-10.

Great credit is due to coach Paddy Tally, who has moulded a great team from a very small pool of talent and inspired a winning way. The spirit of the Ranch is still alive. St Mary’s will contest the final with Dublin Institute of Technology.

The victory over UCD is the College’s fifth straight win in the competition, having also turned over Trinity College Dublin, Queen’s University, University of Ulster and Cork IT.

Paddy Tally expressed his views on the win to Daire Walsh from the Irish News saying that he was delighted:

“We were under a lot of pressure, but the boys worked extremely hard. To come out with a win is fantastic.”
